First Aid in remote and wilderness environments
A practical, hands on course suitable for anyone undertaking outdoor adventurous activities and journeys in remote environments. Ideal for outdoor enthusiasts & bushcraft / survival situations in the UK and temperate climates.
Syllabus
Specialist first aid skills
- Incident management – Multiple casualties & problem solving
- Bleeding & trauma – including knife, saw & axe wounds
- Tourniquets – when & when not to use
- Extended care – secondary survey, monitoring & record keeping
- Getting help – signals & radio communication
- Evacuation – vehicles, helicopters & improvised stretchers
- Stabilising – Splinting, dislocations & traction splints
- Wilderness equipment – first aid kits & medicine
- Commonly encountered illnesses – Hydration & diarrhea
Core first aid skills
- Vital signs
- Emergency Action (ABC)
- Unconscious casualty
- Breathing problems
- Bleeding & burns
- Basic Life Support
- CPR
The course includes practical workshops and outdoor-based scenarios. All courses are HSE approved and provided by our sister company Lakes First Aid. Certificates are valid for 3 years.
Please note: This course specialises in advanced wilderness first aid. Participants must have some basic first aid knowledge with a minimum of 6hrs first aid training prior to attending.
