Based in the Northern Lake District, we operate as a mobile outdoor activity company in stunning locations around the spectacular Ullswater valley. Our friendly, experienced staff will provide you with a fun & memorable adventure where We promise to deliver an exceptional experience.

Who are we:
Reach Beyond Adventure was formed in 2008 by Ross Wallace and Sue Wallace. The operations are managed by Ross Wallace who has worked within the outdoor industry for over 24 years managing & delivering activities, events & experiences to both individuals and organisations. Our philosophy about the outdoors
Our core ethos is that everyone should be given the opportunity to experience the outdoors whether through canoeing across a lake, climbing a mountain or undertaking an overnight bushcraft journey. We know how impactful these experiences can be that will leave you with everlasting memories.
We value the fantastic diversity the UK outdoor environment offers us and believe that through these exceptional & stunning landscapes there is always opportunity for fun, adventure, challenge and learning. The outdoors offers a true leveller whether it is for bringing a group of people together, having a shared family experience or simply to try something new.
We have had the great pleasure of working with a huge range of businesses and individuals from across the UK and overseas. In particularly Ross has worked with ABL Health, Cranfield School of Management, Heriott Watt University, Disney UK, Rover Cars, IBM, BAE Systems, Rolls Royce, British Sugar, Piaggio, Samworth Brothers, HBOS, Lloyds TSB & Nestle UK.
Licence, Associations and Memberships
Reach Beyond Adventure is is registered with The Adventure Activities Licensing Service to provide Climbing, Trekking, Caving & Watersports. License details can be confirmed by calling The Licensing Service on 029 2075 5715. We are a member of the Institute for Outdoor Learning and the Ullswater Association. We hold a £5 Million Public & Employers Liability Insurance with the Activities Industry Mutual.
With 2 part time instructors and a large group of associate staff, Reach Beyond Adventure has a highly professional and enthusiastic team, qualified across all areas of the outdoor sector and in development training including: mountaineering, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, ghyll scrambling, expeditioning, team problem solving and first aid.
All staff hold nationally recognised qualifications for each area they instruct including awards from the: British Canoe Union, Mountain Leader Training UK, Institute for Outdoor Learning & Archery UK. Many of our staff are Accredited Practitioners of the Institute for Outdoor Learning.
Staff & associate organisations:
All staff are both highly experienced and qualified within the activity they provide. We believe that staff should remain current within their area of expertise and we actively encourage continuous professional development. We provide associate training days and trips away to promote effective teamworking, networking and rapport.
Ross has worked across the UK for over 24 years providing outdoor experiential learning opportunities for individuals and teams. He is an Accredited Practitioner of the Institute for Outdoor Learning (APIOL) and previously held the prestigious position of National Training Manager for Outward Bound® (UK).
Ross now divides his time between running his two businesses Reach Beyond Adventure and Lakes First Aid and working as an associate trainer for a handful of key training organisations.
Ross is well qualified holding a range of national mountaineering, climbing, canoeing and sailing qualifications. He is an accredited Bushcraft Practitioner, Yacht Skipper and Powerboat Instructor.
Ross believes that everyone has the potential to achieve more and that a creative and supportive environment can be the foundation for some of the greatest personal development opportunities. Ross values the importance of making time to both reflect and learn from experience (something of we could always do more of!) and that his most rewarding experiences are seeing someone else achieving their potential no matter how great or small.
Ross is well travelled and has worked or undertaken adventurous activities in the USA, Canada, Europe, Australia and Thailand. He lives with his family in Cumbria and says that some of the best adventures he has had are with his children who never cease to amaze him in their approach to learning and adventure!
Sue works full time for the Reach Beyond Adventure & Lakes First Aid managing the operations, bookings, logistics and marketing. She is also a full time mum, Paediatric Occupational Therapist and part of a three-person private Occupational Therapy team (girl power!)
Sue has exceptional knowledge and understanding of the business and brings over 25 years experience of working within the health sector with children and adults of all abilities.
Sue also helps run a private occupational business Thumbs Up For Therapy which offers private occupational services to children and is currently developing a programme in conjunction with our outdoor activities to offer enhanced learning opportunities for children with co-ordination difficulties / dyspraxia.
Luke is a member of our operational team and has worked with Reach Beyond Adventure from almost the very beginning which often feels more like a family member than a work colleague!
He is enthusiastic about all aspects of the outdoors and particularly passionate about bushcraft, canoeing & mountaineering having recently completed his (aspirant) Mountain Instructor Training course. He is also a member of Cumbria Ore Mines Rescue Unit.
